A Brief Biography

William Blake (1757–1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker who lived almost entirely in London. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, he is now considered a seminal figure of the Romantic Age. Blake was a visionary artist who rejected traditional religious and political constraints, creating his own complex mythology. He famously developed “illuminated printing,” a technique where he etched his poetry alongside vivid, fantastical illustrations, blending visual and literary art to critique the industrial revolution and champion human imagination.
