The real Navaratri is the inner struggle

Modern Psychology and the Inner Struggle
In modern psychology, the "inner struggle" often refers to the struggle that occurs when different psychological needs, values, desires, or parts of our personality pull us in opposing directions at the same time.
Ancient traditions simplified this struggle as a moral or spiritual conflict, we get many stories of old where the battle is between Good & Evil, the forces of Light & Dark; today that struggle is much more psychological.
What the Inner Struggle Means in Modern-Day Terms
1. The Tension Between the Self and the Persona (Authenticity vs. Approval)
In modern daily life, one of the most common inner conflicts is the tension between who we truly are and who we feel we must pretend to be. Pioneered by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, the persona is the social mask we wear to fit in, succeed, or gain approval. The inner struggle arises when the demands of the persona conflict with our authentic core—leading to modern experiences like "imposter syndrome," burnout, or chronic anxiety.
The Real Meaning of Navaratri: Awakening & Overcoming Negativity Within Ourselves
"The fight goes on between the forces of darkness and the forces of light... Navaratri is the time when the Goddess fought for nine days continuously to destroy all these negative forces. But in Sahaja Yoga, the real Navaratri is when you overcome your own inner enemies—the ego, superego, greed, anger, and darkness within—through the awakening of your Kundalini."
— Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (Navaratri Puja)
2. The Nine Nights as the Evolutionary Journey
Shri Mataji highlights that Navaratri is not merely an external ritual or celebration, but the inner movement of the Kundalini through the chakras:
"Navaratri means nine nights. These nine nights are symbolic of the nine stages of our evolution through which the Goddess took us to bring us to the level of human beings, and then beyond human beings to Self-realization. The true celebration of Navaratri is when the light of the Spirit shines within you and you become a realized soul."
— Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
3. The Real Puja: Purification of the Heart
In a letter written to Sahaja Yogis for Navaratri, Shri Mataji addressed the true attitude required during Navaratri:
"Let this Diwali and Navaratri enlighten you with the light of love. You yourself are the lamps which burn high... To your Mother, nothing but purity of heart and purity of your body is going to please. Anything that is impure has to be thrown away."
— Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (Navaratri Address, London)
